Eg.8 Destinys Child - Bootylicious

ACT: Destinys Child
TRACK: Bootylicious
YEAR: 2000
DIRECTOR: beyonce
GENRE: r and b, Hip hop
MAIN AUDIENCE: M 15-24; significant F 15-24 appeal
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN VISUALS + LYRICS:
No direct link
there is a bigger aspect to the video , about the body being 'bootylicious' the visuals are there for based on this. such as the girls wearing tight clothing . the visuals do not literally link to the lyrics they don't really symbolic either, It is a more over all aspect.

GENRE CHARACTERISTICS:
this  video contains the typical genre characteristics such as all girl band , wearing matching clothing singing into the camera. Appealing to both audiences. They are all r and b which is a lot different to pop music, as it does not contain cheesiness.

PERFORMANCE, NARRATIVE AND/OR CONCEPT?:
there is performance footage but not a lot it also does not realistic. There is a narrative but not a strong as it is telling a story but the lyrics do not match visuals which makes it hard to follow. The girls are talking about there bodies being too good for someone this does come across symbolic and overall. So there is narrative but non linear they also tell narrative through there dancing.
Looking into camera

LOOKING/MODE OF ADDRESS:
the band do look into the camera to build up a direct connection with the audience. there is not often shots that do not contain them looking into the camera . They do look into the camera so the audience can feel involved .

STAR TREATMENT:
There is star treatment as there is a leader of the group , Beyonce is singled out more than the other girls because she is the main part of the group and the leader. However she is only singled out to a extent as the camera reverts back to her a lot but her with other members of band. Beyonce is also highlighted as the main one , as this is often good within girl bands.

MALE GAZE?:
Male gaze
There is male gaze throughout the video to attract both audiences , however as it is r and b this makes it also more appealing to the male audience . the girls are also almost the typical girl band , due to the song and the choice of mise en scene this will make it more appealing to the male audience as well as the female audience.

PACE + ANY VARIATION OF PACE:
the pace is fast this means the shots must be fast . the editing is very fast especially at the beginning and the end this builds up the pace to the beginning , this is then the same throughout the video. There is no variation of pace it is maintained throughout the video. there are some long shots but they are also moving shot which makes it interesting to watch and still at a fast pace which is better for videos without a narrative.

SHOT VARIETY + NO. OF SETUPS:
Green screen
There are a number of set ups and different sequences used again such as the beginning and the ending of the vid. There is a wide scope of shot variety, when there is lip synching there is often close ups and when there is dancing they are often long shots.

FX:
There is some special effects used such as the opening to open after the intro . there is also some layering used and special effects over the girls and the beginning there are transitions used to change between the different freeze frames.

LOCATION/S + MISE-EN-SCENE:
The locations used looks like it could be done on a green screens as this is all special effects. the mise en scene is very revealing which also fits with male gaze theory (laura mulvey).
